Dr. Mary-Cathrine Leewis is a Research Microbiologist at the U.S. Geological Survey, where our mission is to provide transparent, impartial, and reliable science about the health of our ecosystems and environment. MC is part of research a team developing and implementing innovative, biologically based solutions for sustainable mining. She addresses questions of microbial metabolism, climate change, and carbon stabilization using molecular and isotopic techniques.
